Spring is here! March 2025

After nearly a month of heavy rain here in the Algarve we are back practicing on Monday and Thursday evenings in Santa Luzia. It is GOOD TO BE BACK! Apart from missing the physical movement, fitness and playing netball we have missed our wonderful community of supportive women. It’s great to be back on the court together again.

On Saturday March 15th we took a netball post and some balls to the Sol De Inverno festival in Tavira. Netball is still a fairly new and unknown sport here in Portugal so we used the opportunity to introduce lots of new people to the game, the rules and, most importantly, how to score a goal. Unfortunately our day was cut short by the weather but it was good to get out into the community & especially to talk to women who are looking for new activities and groups to join.

We are now looking forward to preparing for the biggest event of our season; the Algarve 7s tournament in Vila Real De Santo António on June 7th and 8th. On Saturday April 26th we will play against two teams; Vipers Ladies and the Silver Coast Sirens at Browns Sports Resort in Vilamoura. Then, on Saturday May 10th, we will play against the Lagos Fireballs, Leoas of Tavira and Albufeira on our own court in Santa Luzia. Come down to support us and see some real, live action netball right on our own doorstep.

We continue to build our community as new players have joined us over the past couple of months. We welcome all ladies, aged 18yrs+, to come to any practice and see if netball is for you. We currently have members from 9 nationalities aged 29 to 67 years including players with no previous netball experience (having never even heard of netball before ) to those who played netball at school (quite a few years ago now!) and some who have continued to play and join us with great experience to share. Our next social event will be a relaxed games afternoon on Sunday 30th March, held in Cabanas de Tavira. A great opportunity to get to know each other off the court. Keep up to date with all our events by following our calendar.
