Our 2024/25 season kicked off on Saturday with a pre-season meet up in Tavira. It was great to see everyone again and catch up on all the news from over the summer: new homes, new jobs, holidays, a new baby and an engagement!
Last night (Monday 9th September) we held our first practice session of the season at our new court in Santa Luzia… with new painted lines! A big thank you goes out to the Presidente and staff at the Freguesia de Santa Luzia, especially Mr Francisco and Mr Jorge who painted the lines for us. They look incredible in a bright ‘Rockets Blue’.
The weather was perfect as the summer heat is coming to an end. We started the session with a quick meet and greet and introduction of new members then straight into ball handling drills as most of us haven’t played any netball over the summer.
Our warm ups and fitness exercises were in a different format yesterday as we split into two groups to try new exercises using our new club equipment. Lisa H took us through resistance band exercises to warm up our muscles and Philippa did some cardio and core exercises incorporating netballs. Next it was Lisa M’s turn to lead us in ball handling and movement drills to practice changing direction and keeping our hips forward.
After the warm ups & talking through court positions and rules with our new players, it was time to play our first games of the new season. We ran and we ran and we laughed and we ran again. It was so good to be back together playing netball as a team again. I know I slept well last night, I’m sure everyone else probably did too. Our new players did really well, we look forward to welcoming them back again in the following weeks.
Our practice sessions are open to all women aged 18yrs+. A great mix of fun, fitness and friendship. If you’d like to give netball a try you can just turn up to a session.
