We are moving! August 2024

Exciting news for the 2024/25 season: from September 2024 Rockets Netball Algarve will be moving to Santa Luzia!

Rockets Netball are looking forward to a new season, a new court and welcoming new members. We were very pleased with our first season as a club & what we have achieved in such a short time, including playing in the international Algarve 7s tournament in VRSA, in June, where we won far more games than expected. We also enjoyed forming links with other clubs, both within and outside of Portugal. We aim to continue to train and play games together over this coming season.

Setting up a new sports club (association) in Portugal is no easy feat, with seemingly never ending paperwork and criteria to fulfil, but we are now registered as an official association (as of October 2023), have voted in club committees (Rockets Netball is an independent club run by its members) and finally a bank account! We are ready to take on new challenges.

Last season we were able to use the sports court in Cabanas de Tavira, opposite Pedras da Rainha, with the kind permission of the Presidente de Junta de Freguesia, Angelo Filipe Silva Pereira. For this upcoming season, starting in September, we have been working with the Presidente de Junta de Freguesia in Santa Luzia, Carla Patrícia Maié Martins, to use their sports facilities at Polidesportivo (home of CRD Santaluziense). We are especially looking forward to having actual painted lines on our court this season. It will make such a difference in helping us improve our netball skills and will also make it easier for new members to learn the rules of netball.

Our Rockets’ members come from all over the world, with a wide range of ages and abilities; from ladies who have never played (or have even heard of) netball before to those who played at school and some who even played at a higher level. We also have social members who join us as supporters and for social events. Their support at all tournaments, especially the Algarve 7s was phenomenal!
